When you log into the device with user root, you will have to enter operational mode with cli

Show Interface Status

run show interfaces terse alt text

show interfaces descriptions alt text

Show Config by Command

show | display set | no-more

Configure root account

set system root-authentication plain-text-password

As you make changes to the config, you are creating a candidate configuration. Once you commit the config, the candidate becomes the running.

Use commit check to make sure the config you applied is valid upon being committed.

Use show | compare to check all of your changes before committing.

Load a full config file

If your config file contains all set commands, you can use load set relative terminal, then enter and Control-D:

If your config file is in .xml format, you need to use load merge relative terminal, then enter and Control-D

Find specific line in config

show | display set | match system

See which interface a MAC address is learned on

show ethernet-switching table

Gracefully shut down the device

request system halt If you press a key, it will restart instead of shutting down
